"The way you choose to travel changes the way you see a place and the way a place sees you," Rickey Gates.
Rickey Gates, “The last of the Mohicans.” By Gaël Couturier.
Sometimes, unique personal adventures go beyond the simple physical act. They transcend one body and one mind to resonate within the human kind. This is a path of geniuses, men and women dedicated to accomplish an act so meaningful that it may change the lives of others, impact positively future generations and shine across any borders we can imagine.
On March March 1st in Charleston, South Carolina, Rickey Gates, a 36 years old, resident of Aspen, Colorado, began a cross country trek, that will end in San Francisco, once he crosses the Golden Gate bridge, ideally on August 1st, some 4000 cross-country miles later.
Rickey Gates is one of those rare adventure people. For a start, he’s a very unique character in the American ultra running scene. At a time when the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race, and probably the second world’s most famous 100-mile trail race after the UTMB in Europe, and the the Western States® 100-Mile Endurance Run, Rickey Gates, an elite sponsored athlete by Salomon, is currently running, or sleeping, on the side of the road somewhere in America and enjoying the experience! Maybe he just sat down at a Subway restaurant for a short break from the sun & heat of such cruel desert. The impact of his cross country feat will equal the one of Forest Gump – if Forest Gump had only been real. No kidding. Rickey Gates is super long distance runner and a great photographer, and master of digital communication on social media. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. ,
Impressed by his art, and running journey, I decided to give him a cal on the road. Instead of writing this interview down, I’ve decided to let it be as a podcast. Rickey’s voice tells stories; stories of a man struggling with the heat, the miles covered, and the one to come, his loneliness, but also his discoveries. Good job Mr Gates. You’re one hell of a man. Listen to the Podcast, while looking through a few Rickey’s photographs from the road and trail.
